Thanks. I think its cool I heard of it on Chatlands 2HD so now I can make poses, thanks Gimp!
GIMP does not work with Windows 7 64bit.. I would like to use it but it will not work with Windows 7.
A powerful alternative. GIMP is a powerful photo editor. It may be advanced, but once you master it, i will be very functional. Part of your time using it my just be on learning how to use it. Pros: Wide range of features Powerful editor. Cons: Takes more space then Paint.net Isn't one-click share like Picasa Slower Start-up
Better Than Photoshop.
I started using GIMP about 3 years ago. I found it through a YouTube speedpaint. At first, I was a little discouraged, because I wasn't too good with it. But I figured it out enventually. I love GIMP and I couldn't live without it at all. It makes my art so much easier and makes everything I do look much better than the sketches! It doesn't quite agree with my Tablet, makes the program lag, but it doesn't bug me too much. This program eliminates even the need for Photoshop! Photoshop can't even crop or blend well. Plus it's complicated. GIMP is great for first time digital artists, and you can also get perfessional work done with it. It's an all-around program, it's good for everything, and nothing beats it!
Easy color editing
Everything about GIMP is a pro, really.
Sometimes lags with Tablet
The 'Merge Visible Layers' ought to be under the 'Layers' tab in my opinionMore
Love it. Love Gimp, Paint shop is to expensive. The only down sides that I have had with it is when I had to many brushes loaded and two files cruprted. but I really think that was my fault.
After downloading GIMP on my first laptop, it got lots of viruses. My laptop ran slowly due to it. Also, it made my laptop shutting down on itself for no reason. Later, it also stopped it from turning back on, saying that my files were corrupt. When the hardrive was deleted, it worked for several days, until the final stages suddenly happened again.
My laptop then had to be replaced. The same happened to my father's, who had also just downloaded GIMP, the only thing that our laptops had in common, (other then the pre-programmed, safe, Windows programs.)
- The ability to make beautiful art.
- Brakes laptops.
By anonymous. I don't know about u guys. I find GIMP much easier to use. I know that Photoshop is very powerful and all. But, the thing is that makes it much simpler to use. I'd have to read a manual to find my way around Photoshop. This program is part of a curriculum at my university and I find it useful. I'd recommend it to those as computer savvy as me, which is not.
We like this program and want to ask a question.
We like gimp, and we would like to provide a version of gimp via a window on our web site. Has anyone seen or heard of anyone doing this? We would like to house the actual program on one of our servers and just have the users open a browser window to use it. We would like to provide some templates for the users to use and store the the images on our server so they can get to them from any device they are using at the moment.
Any help and direction will be greatly appreciated.
Windows 7. GIMP is an amazing editorial program and I really enjoy using GIMP. It's a lot better than Paint.NET but ever since I got myself a laptop with Windows 7 in it I'm unable to use GIMP. The OS on the download information says it works on Windows 7 but it doesn't, the most it does is keep asking if wanting to install it even after installed. I kept trying to get it open after installing it but every single time I did it kept asking if I want to install it. No idea why I kept hitting install, guess I really wanted to use GIMP again. I miss using GIMP and dislike Paint.NET, I used GIMP everyday on my old laptop which crashed in '10, since I have Paint.NET now I hardly use it at all.More
Got a trojan virus after downloading!. I really like GIMP but right after downloading it from the website, my computer was attacked by a trojan virus called Vindo.1! Has anyone had any issue like this? My computer is up to date with anti-virus software! This virus is awful!
Excellent is Gimp. All I wanted was to select a shape within a picture and eliminate the background and gimp is sucessful! Thanks. Thumbs up!!
A Great Techie Tool.. I GIMP is a great thing, just not for a novice around editing tools. I am an artist by trade, who does alot of artwork with computers every single day, and even I find it a bit daunting. I love what it can do, but for someone without patience, it would be hard going to get used to it's style. Pros: Loads of effects and tools. Cons: Lack of explanation as to how to use.
Awesome Program. I love it. Wish I would have found it sooner. It is a little harder to learn than Paint.net. But has an awesome amount of can do's for a free Program. Pros: Free. It rivals Paint Shop Pro (which ain't free) allows a lot of creative power. Cons: could use easier documentation
i love it!. i don't understand why someone would pay 500-700 dollars for photoshop when somebody can download GIMP for free! i love it! it is SO EASY! Pros: great options great brushes. Cons: none
awsome. im a 3d developer and image editor im also a trackmania united forever user this is like one of the best image editors ive useed other than paintdotNET its what ive been looking for easy to use and has alot of editing tools i use it to also edit cars and shadows for trackmania and the publish them
train an old dog to do new tricks.
Hi. I am an older person who is training myself in graphics. I was told by a fellow artist(who is much younger) that she uses GIMP. I downloaded it and am familiarizing myself with it. I am used to Microsoft Picture It Photo Premium 9. GIMP has much more to offer, which is very good but to me can be a little intimidating.
Pros: GIMP has everything I need to produce images to e-mail or enter contests on the web. GIMP is free!
I need a user manual which uses layman's terms and can also be downloaded in PDF form and printed out to study and refer to when I'm not connected to the internet. I don't know if I'm really qualified to rate GIMP, but I'll give it my best.More
I have not the first clue how to install gimp ....... worse, no-one even wants to offer an explanation. Gimp faq number one should be 'These are the instructions for installation'. Just telling me to compile alot of gobbledygook files that copy to my computer as internet short cuts is no ....... help at all. Gimp people, you took my money as I bought the unlock code .... now make it downloadable for normal people.
I'll tell you when I can download it.
That should pretty ....... obvious by now.More

Can the Gimp be used to alter scanned documents ?. I have just downloaded the Gimp, it sounds great for all photo editing. Can anyone tell me if it can be used to alter scanned documents, can text and or images be changed when scanned into Word for instance ? Thanks, Khadelia. Pros: Will let you know soon
I can't even draw a circle :).
I may not be able to draw a circle in the "real" world, I have trained myself to be a 1st year graphics design(ist). I have never used such a program and I am so addicted to it.
I am finishing up a 120 slidewhow video that I am in the process of doing my last beta testing - theb - out it will go to the viral world.
There have been times I have even impressed myself, and that's a very rare thing.
I can hardly wait to have my "masterpiece" completed so I can vrenture into the other 80% of the program I have yet to touch, that says a lot since I have created some great stuff!
Can I say thank you over and over again!
I could write a small book on how great Gimp is! I hope others feel the same. I'll check back I have taught myself as much as I can. I am sure you have a way to "teach" what I am unable to teach myself.
Thank you so very much!
The list would be so way too long!
as Gimp first launces, there is a circle that I believe is set for erase, it would make so much more since if it would be the select tool
The default is to crop EVERYTHING better if the cropping tool default is "crop current layer only." More
GIMP. I love the gimp. Its one of the most important image editor software. Not only is open source and free, with GIMP you can do the same that you can do with photoshop. GIMP is a profesional image editor and free. Pros: Gimp is free and profesional
Maddening installation in VISTA (great in Linux).
I have used and admired the program (probably a version or two older) on older versions of Windows, but after 7 (Yes, seven) installations and uninstalls and re-installs, I can't make it work on a powerhouse computer running Vista Home Premium. Everything seems OK until I let the installation program start to run GIMP or else click on the desktop icon it created, and immediately I am in "Toolbox" with appropriate icons, but no "File, New, View, Open," etc. words at the top, no minimized/maximize icons, but just an X in the upper right. I can't figure out the stuff about having to install an installer (GTK) and going to sites to download it and being told it is not available, yadda-yadda-yadda. I really dislike the Adobe company and prefer the text features in the older GIMP I had used, but have given up making it work. I hope everyone else has better luck.
Incidentally, while composing this, I paused to download (from CNR) the GIMP program on Linux (Linspire version). In under three minutes on this underpowered, elderly Linux machine, the program was downloaded, installed, and ready to run--all without a re-boot! Since I do most of my heavy lifting in graphic on this big Vista machine, I would like to use GIMP, but have totally given up. Almost scolded by the "Help" message--that I had not installed the help manual (NOT offered as an option during setup). Also, I never want to install a program on drive C and was given no option to install on drive F. This business of having to install an installer first and sort out which version of it works with which GIMP variety (with dire warnings about trying to use unstable version 2.7), chasing down.
None (on Vista)
In Linux GIMP 2.2 is different from Photoshop but offers a friendlier set of menu options and excels over Photoshop in creating, editing, and moving text.
WICKED STUFF. This is a wicked little app, i found it quite easy to use and i get very satisfactory results. Thank you peeps
Now, this one does just what I wanted!.
Seemed like I couldn't accomplish some of the photo chores that I really felt would help in a couple of projects. Then I began to check it out and was totally amazed at what could be done if you kept at it. Found some great tutorials on YouTube and they were a huge help. Really helped out my baby sister who needed a great photo but the one she wanted to use had a background that ruined the whole idea. Looks great now if I do say so myself. Love it.
Has all the tools if you can figure out how to use them.
First you have to understand the terminolgy to be able to decipher how and what to do.More
